The Kentucky Prehospital Blood Academy is a comprehensive, one-day educational program designed for EMS leaders, medical directors, clinical educators, and frontline providers interested in developing or expanding prehospital blood administration programs.
Hosted through a collaborative partnership between Louisville Metro EMS, Lexington Fire Department, Madison County EMS, Georgetown-Scott County EMS, and Jessamine County EMS, this academy brings together experienced clinicians and program leaders who have successfully implemented prehospital blood initiatives across Kentucky.
Participants will explore the full spectrum of program development, including blood product logistics, storage and transport considerations, protocol development, stakeholder engagement, quality improvement, regulatory considerations, and the clinical science supporting prehospital blood administration. Attendees will gain practical insights into the challenges and successes of launching and sustaining a blood program within their own service.
The academy also features multidisciplinary panel discussions with trauma surgeons, emergency physicians, blood bank professionals, and EMS providers, creating a unique opportunity to learn from every stakeholder involved in the process.
Whether your agency is actively planning a prehospital blood program or simply exploring the possibility, the Kentucky Prehospital Blood Academy provides actionable guidance, real-world experiences, and evidence-based strategies to help move your organization forward.
