Serving With Purpose
In central Kentucky, Campbellsville Taylor Co EMS provides emergency care for nearly 28,000 residents. Since 2022, Director Renee Taylor has guided the agency with a clear focus: build a strong team, invest in education, and serve the community with compassion and excellence.
Her leadership has been marked by a commitment to both tradition and innovation, balancing the day-to-day realities of rural EMS with a forward-looking vision that keeps the service growing stronger.
“Leadership is not about me but about the team,” Renee shared. “By supporting and empowering the team, we build a stronger, more effective organization from the ground up.”

What Makes Campbellsville Taylor Co EMS Unique
The service maintains a close partnership with the Campbellsville Fire Department, whose crews respond alongside EMS on major calls. This collaboration has created a model of integrated response that ensures residents receive rapid and coordinated care when it matters most.
The agency’s commitment extends beyond emergency response. It invests in the community through CPR and Stop the Bleed classes, EMT and AEMT programs offered on alternating years, and Virgil’s Christmas, a tradition that raises funds to support wards of the state and nursing home residents in need. These efforts reflect a philosophy that EMS is not only about saving lives in emergencies but also about strengthening the community every day.
“We are a service that continues to grow, striving each day to be better and to make a lasting positive impact for the community and the people we serve,” Renee said.
Education and Growth
Education is a cornerstone for Renee. “Investing in a strong team means supporting the professional development of our employees. Each team member has unique goals, and we’re proud to provide opportunities that help them grow. In turn, our community benefits from having highly trained providers available.”
By serving as an alternate site for the Statewide Paramedic Program, Campbellsville Taylor Co EMS creates a direct pipeline for its providers to advance while staying rooted locally. This not only builds internal strength but also addresses the broader workforce needs in the region.
“Hosting as an alternate site allows us to closely support our students’ educational journey and invest in the team,” Renee explained. “This is a significant benefit to the community, as we are able to bring new paramedics directly through our agency.”

Compliance and Operations
Strong leadership also means strong systems. “Education is key to strengthening our service through effective leadership,” Renee said. “The NAAC class, along with other training opportunities, has been fundamental in keeping us compliant with the latest rules and regulations. These efforts ensure smooth and efficient operations while more importantly helping us identify areas for improvement.”
By combining regulatory excellence with a culture of growth, Campbellsville Taylor Co EMS has positioned itself as a service that both adapts and leads.
Leading Through Challenges
Like many services, Campbellsville Taylor Co EMS is navigating the nationwide paramedic shortage. “EMS faces significant challenges with the ongoing paramedic shortage. While all services share the same goals and regulations, each must adapt to meet the unique needs of its county,” Renee shared.
Her team is addressing this challenge by expanding education, partnering with the local hospital to launch a transport program, and continuing their close collaboration with the Fire Department. These steps provide resilience while ensuring that residents receive the highest level of care when emergencies arise.
Influences and Advice
Renee credits her own growth to those who invested in her along the way. “It is very important to have people who want to invest in you. I have been very fortunate to have leadership here that has invested and believed in me. They are who I look up to and have influenced me the most.”
To new EMS professionals with leadership aspirations, her advice is simple: “Every new leader should invest in their own growth. Leadership skills, like clinical skills, require ongoing development, because true growth should never stop.”
Looking Ahead
For Renee Taylor, success is measured in the growth of her team and the care delivered to the people they serve. Under her leadership, Campbellsville Taylor Co EMS continues to build stronger systems, create opportunities for providers, and serve as a trusted partner to its community.
